AskAway have received questions from students requesting that we shed light on the meaning of their dreams. Though attempting to interpret individual dreams is beyond the scope of AskAway, we would like to draw the attention of all students to the article linked below. The wonderful world of dreams and the method of interpreting dreams according to Islam by Maulana Dost Muhammad Shahid is an excellent read and provides a great insight on this topic from an Islamic perspective. In today’s society, depression is not just an increasing and worrying problem that some people face, but is in fact one of the world’s leading causes of disability worldwide. According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), 350 million people around our world suffer from the illness. Though some forms of depression require invasive medical treatment, some kinds of primary depression can be solvable to a large degree by human mindset and mentality. This series entitled ‘How to Tackle Depression’ will explore this issue from various angles. In Part 1, we address this issue in a more academic way, through the extensive research of a final year Medical Student.
Mental health is defined as the state of wellbeing of the mind of a person. This article will explore and discuss the various roles that religion and spirituality can play in tackling depression, with reference to current research on the topic. (more…)
If we will cease to have a choice in the life after death, aren’t we being demoted from our current status as conscious human beings with free choice?
This is an interesting question, and the answer can be given from many aspects. Firstly it is worth considering the purpose and nature of choice itself. When we talk of freedom of choice or free will in this world, it is subjective. Are we totally free to do as we please and do what we like? Yes, of course! But are we all meant to do so? What is the proper answer to the question of “If God is all powerful can he create an object he cannot destroy?”
This is a regularly repeated question, and manifests itself in various ways. In essence it is alleged that God’s attributes are self-contradictory. Atheists often pose questions such as: Can God make a rock too heavy for Him to lift? Can God kill himself? Can He create an object He cannot destroy? They then allege that if the answer to any of these is ‘no’, then God is not All-Powerful.
The true answer to this question essentially revolves around the fact that God is not just one attribute. He is not All-Powerful exclusively without any other attributes. A true conception of God takes in all his attributes in totality. (more…)
