Islam Ahmadiyya: Presentation 3

“I am the light of this dark age; he who follows me will be saved from falling into the pit prepared by the Devil for those who walk into darkness. I have been sent by God to lead the people of the world to the true Islam through peace and humility, and to reassert the reign of morals in Islam.” – Mirza Ghulam Ahmad, the Promised Messiah and Imam Mahdi

Both mainstream Muslims and Christians believe that Jesus Christ (peace be upon him) currently sits alive in the heavens, and will return physically in the latter days. However, as said by Mirza Ghulam Ahmad, the spiritual representation of Isa in this age, in order for Islam to flourish and spread, the death of Jesus (peace be upon him) must be accepted. This Presentation will highlight some of Ahmad (as)’s arguments, using authentic Islam sources, demonstrating that these sources specifically and unequivocally prove Jesus’s death.

“In your light I learn how to love. In your beauty, how to make poems. You dance inside my chest where no one sees you, but sometimes I do, and that sight becomes this art.” – Rumi

The famous 13th century poet Rumi, whose poems are oft-repeated to this day, wrote numerous pieces in praise of a beautiful Creator, a wonderful Companion, an infinite God. This love for God echoed not only in the heart of Rumi, but also in that of millions throughout history. But is this phenomenon simply an artificial way of self-constructing a meaning to life that does not exist, or is there truly a Creator whose words and actions are very much alive to this day? This presentation will outline arguments for the existence of God, and provide firm ways in which one can personally experience Him.

How To Tackle Depression – Part 1: Spirituality and Mental Health

In today’s society, depression is not just an increasing and worrying problem that some people face, but is in fact one of the world’s leading causes of disability worldwide. According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), 350 million people around our world suffer from the illness.  Though some forms of depression require invasive medical treatment, some kinds of primary depression can be solvable to a large degree by human mindset and mentality.  This series entitled ‘How to Tackle Depression’ will explore this issue from various angles. In Part 1, we address this issue in a more academic way, through the extensive research of a final year Medical Student.

Mental health is defined as the state of wellbeing of the mind of a person. This article will explore and discuss the various roles that religion and spirituality can play in tackling depression, with reference to current research on the topic. (more…)

Alcohol consumption has become a fundamental cause of crime globally. This addiction is inherent in modern society and seems to be on the rise because of accessibility.  As the world acknowledges the harmful impact of alcohol and scrambles to minimize its detrimental effects, many are unaware that in the history of human civilization there did indeed exist a time when a society was purged of the troubles that accompany alcohol consumption—a society whose people were happily delivered from the shackles and stronghold of alcohol abuse, and willingly abandoned drinking. This was the community of the Prophet Muhammad in 7th century Arabia – and members of this faith community continue to abandon alcohol even to this day. This gives rise to a most pertinent question—what was it about the Islamic prohibition that allowed it to succeed where other prohibition movements failed miserably?

Christianity: Presentation 3

Only a century ago, views on Christianity were considered to be on solid ground, and to have emanated from the origins of the religion almost two thousand years ago. However, in the years to come, a number of new discoveries were to shatter some myths, and to cast doubt upon the pillars of the modern religion. This presentation will go through some of these discoveries and will discuss how these findings impact upon the theological basis of Christianity.

“The years to come seemed waste of breath,

A waste of breath the years behind

In balance with this life, this death.” – WB Yeats

The pathos and tragedy associated with World War I is epitomised in the vast array of haunting poems written at that time, and since. Disaster on such a grand scale had never before even entered the sphere of human imagination, let alone occurred. However, several years previously, one man predicted with startling accuracy not only that a great calamity was about to occur, but also specific details related to that event. This presentation tells the astounding story of the nature and fulfilment of the Prophecy of World War I, made by Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (peace be upon him), the Founder of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community.

Never has there been a story so fascinating as that of Islam. From it’s beautiful origins, started by a humble, morally perfect man who claimed that God had appointed him as Prophet, Islam began to capture the imaginations of an Arabian people steeped in sin. Against insurmountable odds, but helped at every step by God, the beautiful message of the Holy Prophet of Islam (peace be upon him) eventually triumphed in the lands and rapidly continued to spread. Though the beauty of the  eternal, undying message of Islam remains in its pristine form even to this day, Islamic history since the inital years has been turbulent, sometimes even dark and bloody. This presentation will take you in a journey through time, succintly providing an overview of Muslim rule over the past 1400 years.

Christianity: Presentation 2

In 1908, Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (as), founder of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, published a book called ‘Jesus in India,’ in which he outlined in detail evidence from the Bible, the Holy Qur’an, and historical and medical sources the claim that Jesus Christ (peace be upon him) did not die on the Cross, but rather survived after a period of unconsciousness. The events of those days, just under 2000 years ago, have shaped much of the way that people think about religion today. It’s effects are far-reaching, forming the crux of the belief system of billions of people worldwide. To decipher the evidence and understand the truth of the events of the weekend that Jesus (peace be upon him) was crucified can change the perspectives, hearts and minds of people all over the world. This presentation presents conclusive arguments, originally formed by Ahmad (as), on this topic.

“Seeing death as the end of life is like seeing the horizon as the end of the ocean.” – David Searls

Since time immemorial, the question of the afterlife has perplexed the mind of the human being. Is our experience after death one of eternal nothingness, or one of spiritual fulfillment and nearness to God? Is this world even the real world, or do we simply exist on earth as travellers, awaiting the time in which our senses are heightened and our faculties enhanced?  The concept of the afterlife is steeped in mystery, but Islamic thought sheds great light on its existence, its nature, and what we as human beings can do to prepare. This presentation, entitled ‘Life after life’ discusses these issues with reference to the Holy Qur’an.

Islam Ahmadiyya: Presentation 1

‘For our Mahdi (Spiritual Reformer) there are two Signs which have never occurred before since the creation of the heavens and the earth, namely, the moon will be eclipsed on the first night in Ramadhan (i.e., on the first of the nights on which a lunar eclipse can occur) and the Sun will be eclipsed on the middle day of Ramadhan (i.e., on the middle day on which a solar eclipse can occur) and these signs have not happened since the creation of the heavens and the earth.’

This famous Prophecy of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was fulfilled in 1894, and provides a compelling argument in support of the truth of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad, the Founder of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community. This Presentation comprehensively outlines the nature of its fulfillment and refutes the common allegations raised by opponents of the Community.
